Ingredients
- 3 lbs potatoes (yukon gold or russet), sliced ⅛ inch on mandolin, skin optional
- ¼ lb ham (cubed or thin slices)
- 6 tbsp butter
- ½ cup all purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375
- Melt butter, add flour, whisk, cook for a few minutes until it smells nutty
- Add milk, whisk, and heat until the sauce starts to thicken. Don’t let it get to a boil
- Spray the bottom of a 9x13 pan with cooking spray
- Start by adding a layer of potatoes, sprinkling ham, a light dusting of salt and pepper, and some of the sauce
- Keep doing this until all the ingredients are used up
- Bake in the oven for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked. Poke with a butter knife to check the texture.
Notes
You can also add cheese to this, just layer it in as you like.
